Deborah Arnold, from the EMMA partner institution université de Bourgogne, presented an overview of audiovisual genres for MOOCs in a session on video in higher education at the recent Media & Learning conference in Brussels. Her presentation, entitled ‘The good, the bad and the ugly?’ engaged the audience in analysing a number of examples of videos from MOOCs from different platforms, including of course EMMA, to endeavour to draw out principles of good practice in video design for MOOCs, in terms of what is the most engaging for the learner, the most appropriate for different subject areas and the level of production values universities should be aiming for.
