DSSR is an interdisciplinary event, where scientists of different areas will have the opportunity to meet and discuss about the new epistemological, methodological and computational developments brought about by the availability of new data (big data, big corpora, open data, linked data, etc.). The aim of the conference is to depict the challenges and the opportunities that the “data revolution” poses to social research, statistics and computer science in the framework of data science. The availability of new data offers to social research great opportunities to enhance knowledge on some key research areas (i.e. development, social inequalities, health, business, governance, marketing, communication research). It is crucial to ask critical questions about what all this data means, who gets access to what data, how data are analysed and to what extent. The conference is under the auspices of the International Sociological Association (ISA), the International Association for Statistical Computing (IASC), the Italian Sociological Association (AIS) and the Italian Statistical Society (SIS).
